Show Notes

The prophet, Elijah, the Tishbite, is often considered one of the greatest prophets in Israel's history. His courage, faithfulness, and powerful impact on the spiritual and political landscape of his time have left a lasting legacy in the religious tradition of Judaism and Christianity.

This greatness was understood and acknowledged even during his lifetime. This may be why his successor, Elisha felt unworthy to follow in his footsteps. In 2 Kings 2, on the banks of the Jordan River, Elijah said this to his protege. “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha promptly responded. “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”

While it is not explicitly stated how this double portion manifested in Elisha  ministry, there are several instances that suggest the presence of an extraordinary anointing and power upon Elisha. We explore a few of these in today’s episode. We also discuss whether believers ought to ask for a double portion of the Holy Spirit to power our lives.
