Today is Part 4 of our 1010 Thrive special – David, the Psalmist: A Musical Journey. Years pass. David, the shepherd boy anointed to one day become king, continues to live as a fugitive, increasing his band of followers, while eluding the ever-hostile King Saul. After various adventures, Saul and several members of his household are killed in battle.
David's reign is marked by significant military, political, and spiritual achievements. He successfully unifies the previously fragmented tribes of Israel and Judah, making Jerusalem the political and spiritual capital by bringing the Ark of the Covenant into the city. He is known for his just and godly governance, and his popularity among the people soars.
David commits the sin of adultery with the wife of Uriah, the Hittite. God sends Nathan the prophet to confront David about this sin. The king repents and seeks God’s forgiveness. David eventually dies, “full of days, riches, and honor,” but not without leaving behind a complex legacy marked by incredible highs and devastating lows.
