Matthew is the only Gospel where the term “church” is found. In Matthew 16:13-19, we find Peter’s “great confession” that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the living God.” In response to this, Jesus says “On this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
The church is built by Jesus. Today, we explore seven passages of scripture that explain what we should find in a church that continues to rest on a Jesus foundation: 1 John 4:12; Hebrews 3:13; Hebrews 10:24; Galatians 5:13; Romans 15:14; Romans 12:10; and Ephesians 4:32. Additional scriptures referenced include 1 John 2:5, 1 John 4:17; and Hebrews 3:13-14, and Romans 12:9.
