The Song of Solomon is an unusual but beautiful Old Testament book. While, on the surface, it might seem like a steamy romance novel (albeit a short one), it is actually filled with typology. One author writes that, “no book in the Bible presents symbolism more liberally or effectively than The Song of Solomon.”
The title of the book means that this is the song above all songs. According to 1 King 4:32, Solomon speaks three thousand proverbs and writes more than a thousand songs. This song, which makes it into the Bible is rated above all the rest! It uses vivid images of human physical love – to describe a wonderful spiritual reality – Christ’s love for the church.
We explore different ways that Christians view the book, summarize the action, and connect the ideals set forth in this book to the challenges for marital success in the modern day. Scriptures referenced include 1 Kings 4:32; Psalm 23:1; Proverbs 18:22; Proverbs 19:14; Ecclesiastes 4:9; Song of Solomon 4:9; and 1 Kings 11:3.
