Today is Part 2 of “It’s a Light Thing,” a five-part series based on a story found in 2 Kings 3:1-25. The story is about how God guides the kingdoms of Israel, Judah, and Edom in a successful military campaign against the people of Moab. As we discuss lessons from this story, we connect them to the experiences of people of African descent in recognition of Black History Month.
Part 2 focuses on the idea that just as God delivered the children of Israel, He was at work in many stories of deliverance of African American people, especially during the time of slavery. Our top ten list includes “10 Notes of Deliverance During the Period of Slavery.” Among them are facts about the Underground Railroad and maroons and stories about daring escapes.
Additional scriptures referenced include Isaiah 43:3, 11.
