We wrap up our first week exploring the role of women in the Bible by exploring Psalm 139:13-14, “For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.” These words are written by David. However, these sentiments could be expressed by any one of us. God has created each of us as unique individuals: both male and female.
We offer a bonus top ten: ten notes about unique women or unique events/circumstances involving women in the Bible. The list includes the only woman whose age at the time of her death is given. In this list, we identify the names of the following: the only women to be listed among Israel’s judges, the only woman to reign and rule over any Israelites, and the only women to commission mass murder. We also share notes about the role of women in the early Christian church.
We wind up the episode discussing the status of women in the world today. And we affirm that male hierarchy over women is not in God’s original design. The more we can hold up this truth, the greater the likelihood that we can address continuing gender inequality, continuing gender exploitation, and continuing gender oppression.
