To lament is to express deep regret, grief, or sorrow. We can lament through words or actions. Grief is a common human experience, and even Jesus grieved when He lived as one of us on this earth. The book of Lamentations pictures a man of God puzzling over the results of evil and suffering in the world. It reminds us of the importance not only of mourning over our sin but of asking the Lord for His forgiveness when we fail Him.
