Show Notes

To lament is to express deep regret, grief, or sorrow. We can lament through words or actions. Grief is a common human experience, and even Jesus grieved when He lived as one of us on this earth. The book of Lamentations pictures a man of God puzzling over the results of evil and suffering in the world. It reminds us of the importance not only of mourning over our sin but of asking the Lord for His forgiveness when we fail Him. Scriptures referenced include John 11:35; Jeremiah 12:20–21; Psalm 130:1; Psalm 6:4; Psalm 79:1; Psalm 31:4; Jeremiah 18:21-22; Psalm 137:8-9; Lamentations 1:1; Lamentations 2:12,21; Lamentations 4:10; Lamentations 1:4; Lamentations 3:7-8, 12; Lamentations 3:21-23; Matthew 27:46; Mark 9:24; 2 Corinthians 4:8; 2 Corinthians 7:10; and Lamentations 3:17-21.
