The Book of Jeremiah records the final prophecies to Judah, warning of oncoming destruction if the nation does not repent. Jeremiah calls out for the nation to turn back to God. At the same time, Jeremiah recognizes the inevitability of Judah’s destruction due to its unrepentant idolatry and immorality. The prophet has a difficult message to deliver. He loves Judah, but he loves God much more. As painful as it is for him to convey a consistent message of judgment to his own people, Jeremiah is obedient to what God tells him to do and speak. Jeremiah hopes and prays for mercy from God for Judah, but also trusts that God is good, just, and righteous.
What are some of Jeremiah’s messages of justice and grace that we ought to consider for personal reflection and meditation? Scriptures referenced include Numbers23:9 and 1 Timothy 4:12 and more than 13 different passages in Jeremiah. Check out our website for more.
