Show Notes

Today’s episode explores the healing of a deaf and mute man in Decapolis. Jesus, having arrived in the bustling Greek-speaking region, is immediately approached by a crowd urging Him to heal a man named Joshua, who was born deaf and could only groan. Instead of healing him amidst the throng, Jesus leads Joshua away to a private place. There, with intimate gestures—touching the man's ears with His fingers and his tongue with saliva—Jesus utters the powerful command, "Ephphatha!" ("Be opened!"). Instantly, the man's hearing is restored, and his tongue is loosened, allowing him to speak clearly for the first time, experiencing the world's sounds with profound joy and wonder.

Despite Jesus' instruction to tell no one about the miracle, Joshua's overwhelming joy leads him to immediately proclaim his healing upon returning to the crowd. The astonished onlookers spread the news rapidly, praising Jesus for doing "everything well," making the deaf hear and the mute speak. This public proclamation, even against Jesus' temporary command for silence, highlights the undeniable and transformative nature of the miracle. The disciples, witnessing the man's complete restoration and the crowd's awe, are further convinced of Jesus' divine identity as the Son of God.

Today’s devotional then delves into the deeper theological revelations of this miracle. It emphasizes that Jesus enters our isolation, meeting us in our brokenness; His words speak to the deepest parts of us, opening what is spiritually or physically closed; His compassion is tangible, as shown by His sigh and personal touch; He breaks barriers by healing in Gentile territory, signaling His universal mission; and ultimately, He restores us to worship and witness, transforming silent lives into voices of praise. The episode concludes by applying these lessons to listeners' own lives, encouraging them to allow Jesus to enter their areas of "deafness" and "muteness" and to respond to His call to live a full, thriving life in testimony to His power and love.
