Show Notes

On this Good Friday, we release the first episode in our five part Easter Special. Today’s episode describes the events beginning with the Last Supper up to and through Jesus’ arrest from the perspective of the apostle Peter.

On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, some disciples, including Peter, asked Jesus about the preparations for the Passover meal. Jesus instructed Peter and John to follow a man carrying water in Jerusalem, a sign that led them to a house with a large upper room prepared for the event. They set up for the Passover, filled with a sense of reverence and an ominous feeling of the sacrifice to come.

During the meal, Jesus performed the humble act of washing the disciples' feet, teaching them about servitude and humility, despite Peter's initial resistance. He then broke bread and shared wine, establishing them as symbols of His body and blood, signifying a new covenant and giving the Passover a deeper, sacrificial meaning.

Jesus spoke about servitude, love, betrayal, and denial, predicting that one of the disciples would betray Him and that Peter would deny Him three times. Despite Peter's assertions of loyalty, Jesus's words revealed a deeper knowledge of the forthcoming trials.

Later, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed fervently, confronting His impending sacrifice while the disciples struggled with sleep. The night reached a climax with His betrayal by Judas and subsequent arrest, during which Peter impulsively acted in defense, only to be rebuked by Jesus. Following these events, at the high priest's house, Peter faced his own spiritual trial, denying Jesus three times, fulfilling the prophecy and leading to his profound regret.
