Episode 503: God’s Special People

In 1 Peter 2:9, the apostle tells us that Christians are “peculiar people.” In saying this, Peter is not saying that Christians are odd or unusual people, even though the world often looks at us that way. What this passage is communicating is that Christians or believers are people who belong to God, they are His own possession. Another way of saying it is that believers are “God’s own special people.”   Additional scriptures referenced include John 1:12; Psalm 139; Ephesians 2:10; 1 Peter 4:10-11; Exodus 19:5-6, Deuteronomy 4:20, Deuteronomy 7:6, Isaiah 43:20-21; and 1 Peter 2:10. ...

Episode 256: Put on Love

Colossians is written explicitly to defeat a heresy that has arisen in Colossae, which endangers the existence of this church in Asia Minor. While we do not know exactly what this heresy is, Paul’s epistle is his response to this. In Chapters 1-2, Paul warns the Colossians not to allow anyone to lead them astray with philosophy, trickery, or by traditions of men. In the final two chapters, Paul encourages the church to focus on God, and keep their eyes on the goal, “set your mind on the things above.”  One of his definitive statements is in Colossians 3:14-15, “Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts."   Other scriptures referenced include Acts 19:10; Colossians 1:7; Colossians 4:12; Colossians 2:16-18; Colossians 2:9; Colossians 1:20; Colossians 2:14; Colossians 3:2; and Colossians 3:12-15. ...

Episode 436: Ask in Faith-Without Doubting

Doubt is an experience common to all people. Even those with faith in God struggle with doubt on occasion and say with the man in Mark 9, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (verse 24). Some people are hindered greatly by doubt; some see it as a springboard to life; and others see it as an obstacle to be overcome. The Bible has something to say about the cause of doubt and provides examples of people who struggled with it.   Additional scriptures referenced include Genesis 3; Luke 1:11-17; Luke 1:18-20; 1 Corinthians 1:20; James 1:6; Romans 10:17; Psalm 77:11; John 20:25-29; Hebrews 11:1; 2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12; Matthew 4:4; Psalm 119:105; Daniel 9:2–3; Luke 11:9-13; and Matthew 21:22. ...
